It has been a while since we last went on a trip since our adventures in the Middle East but we are back on the road doing a trip to visit family, and of course play golf. Janice is going to play in the Canadian Women’s Senior Golf Tournament in a town just outside of Toronto Canada. We are looking forward to the two weeks and what adventures we might have along the way.
First Stop, Cape Cod to Visit Janice’s Uncle Bill
We headed out from Pinehurst, N.C. right after Janice completed her club championship. It was not one of the finest tournaments but she finished the last 4 holes on Pinehurst #2 even par. We headed directly on the road to get part way to the Cape to visit Uncle Bill. We made a stop and stayed at a Village Inn in Harrisonburg Virginia. Janice had no idea what she was thinking when she made that reservation but to our surprise the room has just been redone and was excellent. We got up early and headed to our second stop in New London Connecticut We were fortunate we missed all the flooding that had occurred the day before. We drove on the next day to Yarmouth Mass to see Uncle Bill. He is now 96 years old…amazing..still driving (scares me a little) and now lives in assisted living place. We met and headed out to lunch at a nearby seafood restaurant..While the food was marginal, the company and discussions were wonderful. He is a character, I guess a women who met him for 5 seconds showed up at his door to go to lunch..not sure he is looking for a girlfriend..ha..Inside there is a walking path with markers in the wall so he can see how far he has walked and he does it daily. There is also a pool (he thinks he should be able to swim 1500 yards with no effort) so he does that along with chair yoga and balance classes..He is the Patriarch (last man standing) in Janice’s family. We look forward to seeing Bill next summer!
Visit with Janice’s sister Connie and Lee
We arrived after lunch with Bill and in Connie style she had fresh homemade Chicken soup for dinner so we sat around chatting until about 8:30 when John and I hit the sac..exhausted.
The next day we went to play golf with Brian (Janice’s bother, Connie’s twin), and a terrific course just on the New Hampshire Mass border named Atkinson Resort and Country Club.
it was magnificent. It is tough and in great condition. A stream myanders through the course so you must be aware of where it is on many second shots to greens. You need about 3-5 rounds under your belt to know where to hit the shots but what a track. We will be back there next summer to play.
We headed back to Connie and Lee’s house and they put together some fresh corn on the cob, fresh beans along with burgers (beef is from Mr. Steer in Londonderry N.H. ) everyone should have a butcher like this one it was a wonderful dinner. Brian took off with his buddies to Mt Washington for their annual golf tournament and we hung around shooting the breeze. As always it is great to see Connie and Lee, hope to see them again soon maybe Christmas. Off to play in the Canadian Women’s Senior Golf Championship.
You guys look great! Thank you for taking me along.
